Katharina Haberl

Katharina has premiered several newly composed opera roles at UCLA, including Sor Rafaela in JUANA (Carla Lucero), Queen in The Emperor’s New Clothes (Nicky Sohn) and performed the role of Indiana Elliot in the staged production of Mother of Us All (Virgil Thomson). She also appeared as a performer at the Pauley Pavilion in front of 12,000 audience members broadcasted on television. In addition, Katharina sang in the GRAMMY-winning recording of The Passion of Yeshua by Richard Danielpour with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of JoAnn Faletta, awarded for “Best Choral Performance”.

 

During Katharina's time in Spain, Katharina had the pleasure of singing alongside acclaimed tenor José Carreras, appearing on Spanish national television.

Katharina has also participated in prestigious summer programs, including Mozarteum Summer Academy and the Aspen Music Festival, and numerous masterclasses with Lucas Meachem, Michelle DeYoung, Ailyn Pérez, Brian Jadge, Dolora Zajick, Ildiko Raimondi, Katerina Tretyakova, Ricardo Estrada, Helen Donath, and Janet Perry.

Katharina Haberl is a dramatic coloratura soprano, songwriter and a Doctor of Musical Arts student in Voice Performance at Claremont Graduate University, where she has received the Ahmanson Fellowship for her outstanding work in 2022. Katharina frequently performs in opera productions and as a Soprano soloist in recitals, concerts, and events.


Originally from Salzburg, Austria, Katharina has performed all around Europe and the USA, including Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Greece, Los Angeles, and Miami.
Some of the highlights of Katharina’s professional performing career include singing the role of Musetta in La Bohème with Ópera Cádiz, in Spain in 2021. Katharina also prepared the role of Violetta in La Traviata with Vincerò Academy in the same year. In 2020, Katharina appeared as an actress and singer in several movies, including Harana and Beyond Methuselah.


Katharina holds a master’s degree in Voice Performance from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and a bachelor's degree in Voice Performance from the Conservatorio del Liceu, Barcelona, Spain. Katharina was selected as one of eight young artists joining the world-renowned ensemble Seraphic Fire on concert tours in and around Miami, Florida. While studying at UCLA, Katharina also received several awards, including the "Award for Outstanding Vocal Performance”, the “Mimi Alpert Feldman Award” and the “Philip Altman Award”.

Katharina frequently collaborates with pianists, artists, and orchestras in the Los Angeles area and Europe. Upcoming performances in 2022 include several soloistic recitals, including An Artist’s Journey and will perform as the musical act at [ AEORAH ] An Evening of Remembrance and Hope, a Film Screening of the Award-Winning Documentary, Who Will Write Our History, directed by Roberta Grossman and produced by Nancy Spielberg.

In the summer of 2023, Katharina performed in The Opera Project at Thessaloniki Concert Hall in Thessaloniki, Greece.

 

In addition to Katharina's work in classical music, she also enjoys composing and performing her own songs in the languages she is fluent in, including German, Spanish, and English.

During the Summer of 2024, Katharina is performing the role of Moxie in the newly composed opera "Blur - How to Marry a Billionaire" by Peter Healey with Mesopotamian Opera Company.
